Get Out There and Do It!

FIT: in good health, especially because of regular physical exercise.

FEISTY: lively, determined and courageous.

I’m a Bristol based working mum with a love of the great outdoors, running, Alaskan Malamutes, holistic therapies and experiencing new things.

I’ve always had a feisty streak and I love a good challenge!

I wanted to inspire other people to get out there and experience all that life has to give.  I believe that taking time out for yourself and your family, being in the fresh air, experiencing new things and stepping out of your comfort zone will lead to a happy, healthy life.  I’m not intending to be a role model, I want to be a “real model” – an ordinary person capable of doing extraordinary things. This isn’t a “how to” blog, this is a “get out there and do it” blog.

A NEW YEAR BRINGS NEW CHALLENGES

I am very excited to start 2019 with writing this blog. I will be outlining some of my personal challenges, describing experiences I’ve had (whether big and exciting or small but meaningful) and recommending people, places and products that have had an impact on me and that I truly like. I hope that some of what I say will inspire you to try new adventures whether that’s getting out for a run, climbing a mountain, trying a new therapy, starting a course in something that really interests you or just getting out for a walk in the woods.

First of all, has anyone else signed up for RED January? This is a community initiative, in partnership with Mind, that encourages people to do something active every day. January is a characteristically tough month, the days are still short and dark, the weather tends to be on the grey side, Christmas and all its festivities are over and it’s back to work and school. It’s no wonder moods can become low and people tend to slump on the sofa. However, even ten minutes a day doing something active can get the endorphins flowing and make you feel so much better. I actually started this a day early on the 31st of December, when my son announced he wanted to complete a 10k run before the end of the year! So myself, hubby and son (who is ten) plotted a route that took us through our local parks and did a steady 1ok. We all did it and we all felt fabulous afterwards. However, you don’t need to commit to this sort of distance, or even to running. Today I took my son swimming, I managed 10 lengths and then we spent the rest of the time playing swim tag and doing underwater forward rolls. It still made us feel great. The other day all I could fit in was a walk with our dog – but it was still time being active, being outside, listening to the birds and just enjoying a peaceful 30 minutes. So for the rest of this month, find something you enjoy and do it. Commit to at least 10 minutes a day of being active – a brisk walk in your lunch hour, a quick yoga session (try Yoga with Adrienne on You Tube or her website is http://yogawithadrienne.com), a swim, or a run round the block. I promise you will feel so much better and probably slightly smug!
